Events
School events bring learning to life and play an important role in shaping our school culture. They provide opportunities for students to build confidence, strengthen relationships, and celebrate their progress. These events also invite families to be actively involved in school life and to share in their child’s achievements and successes.
Our school events include:
- Kindergarten orientation days- Kindergarten Orientation Days are a special opportunity for future students and their families to become familiar with school life before starting Kindergarten. These sessions help children build confidence, develop friendships, and feel excited about beginning their learning journey at Oatley West Public School.
- Grandparents Day- Grandparents Day is a cherished event at Oatley West Public School, celebrating the special role grandparents and grandfriends play in the lives of our students and school community.
- Sports carnivals including 3-6 Swimming, Athletics and Cross Country carnivals- At Oatley West Public School, our annual sports carnivals give students in Years 3–6 the opportunity to participate in the Swimming, Cross Country, and Athletics Carnivals in a fun and supportive environment. These events encourage teamwork, positive sportsmanship, school spirit, and striving for personal bests while representing their school houses.
- K-2 Sports Fun Days- K–2 Sports Fun Days provide students with the opportunity to participate in a range of fun, active, and engaging sporting activities in a supportive environment. Through games, team challenges, and movement-based activities, students develop coordination, teamwork, confidence, and fundamental movement skills while enjoying being active with their peers.
- Open classrooms during Education Week- During Education Week, families are invited to visit open classrooms and experience learning at Oatley West Public School firsthand. This special event provides parents and carers with the opportunity to see students engaged in classroom activities, celebrate their learning achievements, and connect with teachers and the wider school community.
- School tours- School Tours – School tours provide prospective families with the opportunity to explore Oatley West Public School, visit learning spaces, and discover the programs and opportunities available to students. Families can meet staff, view classrooms and facilities, and gain insight into the welcoming and supportive environment of our school community.
- ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies- Students at Oatley West Public School participate in ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies to honour and remember the service and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand servicemen and women. These commemorative events encourage students to reflect on the values of courage, respect, and remembrance while learning about the importance of Australia’s history and community traditions.
- Harmony Week and Book Week events- Harmony Week and Book Week events provide students with opportunities to celebrate diversity, creativity, and a love of learning. Through special activities, classroom experiences, and themed dress-up days, students engage in meaningful learning that promotes inclusion, cultural understanding, literacy, and imagination across the school community.
- Excursions and incursions to complement classroom learning and the curriculum- Excursions and incursions provide students with engaging, hands-on learning experiences that complement classroom programs and support the curriculum. Through educational visits, performances, workshops, and visiting presenters, students deepen their understanding, build real-world connections, and enrich their learning across a range of subject areas.
- Performances, concerts or school productions including Combined Schools Concert and the St George Performing Arts Music Festival (SPAF)- Students at Oatley West Public School have opportunities to participate in a range of performances, concerts, and school productions throughout the year, including the Combined Schools Concert and the St George Performing Arts Festival (SPAF). These events allow students to showcase their talents, build confidence, develop teamwork skills, and celebrate creativity through music, dance, drama, and the performing arts.
- Fundraising, charity and community events including Colour runs and the Oatley West Public School Community Festival- Oatley West Public School proudly hosts a range of fundraising, charity, and community events throughout the year, including Colour Runs and the Oatley West Public School Community Festival. These events bring students, families, and the wider community together to celebrate school spirit, support important causes, and strengthen connections within our vibrant school community.
- Award assemblies- Award Assemblies – Award assemblies celebrate student achievement, effort, and positive contributions to school life. These assemblies provide opportunities to recognise students for their academic progress, citizenship, leadership, sportsmanship, and commitment to the school values within a supportive and encouraging environment.
- Graduation and other celebrations- Graduation (Kindergarten and Year 6) and other special celebrations provide opportunities for students to reflect on their achievements, celebrate milestones, and create lasting memories with their peers, teachers, and families. These events recognise student growth, success, and contributions to the school community in a positive and meaningful way.
Excursions at Oatley West Public School are valuable learning experiences that extend students’ learning beyond the classroom. They provide hands-on opportunities to explore new environments, deepen understanding of key concepts, and connect classroom learning to the real world in meaningful and engaging ways.
