We monitor each student's progress and provide additional learning support if this is required.
Our school uses learning programs and specialised staff where needed and we work in partnership with parents and carers to assist students who have special learning needs.
Our school is committed to working with aboriginal parents and community members in developing personalised plans for our aboriginal students.
Learning and Support Teacher
Learning and support teachers have a role within whole school initiatives to improve outcomes for students with additional learning and support needs.
The role of the learning and support teacher as a member of the school learning and support team is to:
- Work collaboratively with the classroom teacher to support assessment for learning of their students with additional educational needs and identify specific learning and support needs.
- Plan, implement, model, monitor and evaluate teaching programs for students with additional learning and support needs in conjunction with regular classroom teachers.
- Plan, implement, model, monitor and evaluate personalised adjustments for learning where required, with the classroom teacher, student and/or parent or carer.
- Model exemplary classroom practice when tailoring adjusted learning programs for students with additional learning needs.
- Provide direct support for students with additional learning and support needs through a range of strategies (including direct instruction, delivery of adjusted learning programs, assessment and monitoring of progress) including the areas of social integration, language and communication, literacy, numeracy and behaviour. This may include students with confirmed disabilities.
- Provide professional specialist advice, support and mentoring to classroom teachers on: how best to cater for the diverse learning needs in their classrooms, and how to effectively work in partnership with families to maximise learning opportunities for students at school and at home.
- Provide professional specialist advice and assistance about students with additional learning needs to the school's learning and support team.
- Assist with professional learning for class teachers and school learning support officers within their school and local network of schools where appropriate.

Gifted and talented students
Our school aims to identify gifted and talented students and to maximise their learning outcomes in all public schools. Gifted and talented students are found in all communities regardless of their ethnic, cultural or socio-economic backgrounds. The gifted population includes students who are underachieving and who have disabilities.
Gifted students are those whose potential is distinctly above average in one or more of the following areas of ability at school - intellectual, creative, social and physical.
Our gifted and talented program provides these students with learning opportunities on top of the normal curriculum.
Opportunity classes
Certain schools across NSW offer opportunity classes for high-achieving, academically-gifted students in Years 5 and 6. To be considered for enrolment, students must sit the opportunity class placement test in Year 4. The test is held between late July and early August and application packages must be made in May.
Selective high schools
Selective high schools provide a challenging environment where high-achieving, academically gifted students can reach their potential. To apply for a selective high school you need to complete an application in Year 5 and students must sit the selective high school placement test in Year 6 to be considered for enrolment.
Some selective high schools accept students for entry into Years 8-12. Applications are available in June and must be made directly to your preferred school.
