Religion and ethics

At Oatley West Public School, students can take part in special religious education (SRE) or special education in ethics (SEE) classes, depending on what’s available. These classes are delivered by approved providers.

When enrolling your child, you’ll be able to choose an option from the approved providers offered at our school. Students not attending SRE or SEE are given supervised alternative meaningful activities.

The following SRE options are available at Oatley West Public School;

  • Catholic
  • Combined Christian
  • Greek Orthodox

Combined Christian

This is a combined group of churches within the local area. All of these organisations are on the Department of Education's list of approved providers. Additional details of the program, the scope and sequence for this curriculum is available here Curriculum.

Special religious education (SRE) is education in the beliefs and practices of an approved religious persuasion. Under the Education Act 1990, section 32, government schools allow time for special religious education. It is delivered by authorised representatives of approved religious groups to students who have nominated that religion.

For more information, see Special religious education and special education in ethics providers list.

You’re welcome to change your choice at any time. Just let us know using the online form.
