Travel to school
Planning your school travel is easy. There are a range of safe transport options to get to our school. Check our location map, driving details and public transport options to help make the journey to school safe and easy.
Location Map
We are located on Oatley Park Ave, Oatley, next door to the beautiful Oatley Park.
As a parent or carer, it’s your responsibility to get your child to and from school safely. Student safety is our priority.
Keep our school community safe by:
- driving and parking safely, even if it means parking further away and walking the rest of the way to school
- being a good role model
- never calling your child from across the road
- using the safest place to cross the road.
For parents and carers of younger children
Discuss with your child how to be safe when:
- walking
- in the car
- waiting for, travelling on, and getting off the bus
- riding bikes, scooters and skateboards.
Also talk about and practise:
- safe travel routes
- plans for when unexpected things happen
- what to do in wet weather.

Road Safety
Oatley West Public School welcomes careful road users. The streets that form the perimeter around the school can become very busy just before and just after school. Collectively, motor vehicles, bicycles, scooters and pedestrian traffic create a potentially dangerous road area.
We ask that all our road users obey the rules of the road and exercise courtesy and caution at all times.
Students are allowed to ride bicycles and scooters to and from school with parental permission. Students are required to read and sign a rider’s agreement with their families before riding to school.
Students must wear an Australian Standards fitting helmet and dismount from their bicycle or scooter at pedestrian crossings. Students must not ride their bicycle or scooter in school grounds. Bicycles and scooter must be stored in the bicycle racks at the school. Students can provide their own lock.
Drop off and Pick up
Designated Kiss and Ride zones are located in Short Street, Dame Mary Gilmore Road and Park Avenue. A No Parking Zone (i.e. vehicles can only remain for two minutes and the driver must remain within three metres of the vehicle) is loacted at the main entrance to the school (Oatley Park Avenue). Please ensure that when students leave a vehicle, they must do so on the kerb side via the safety door. Please refrain from encouraging students to cross the road by calling them or sounding a horn.
Pedestrians
There are four pedestrian access gates to the school- one gate on each of the four streets that border Oatley West Public School.
Please note, all gates are locked during school hours, 9:30am to 3:20pm. Access is through the 'main front gate' (Gate D) on Oatley Park Avenue, closest to the front office, during school hours.
There are two pedestrian crossings, one on Short Street and the other on Oatley Park Avenue. Both crossings have a crossing supervisor from 8:30am-9:30am and 3pm-4pm.
Driveways and parking
Around our school we have narrow and busy streets. Please ensure you park close to the kerb and avoid parking across residential driveways or double parking. Only park in legitimate on-street parking.
When walking with your child, please scan driveways for vehicles.
Parking on school grounds
The staff carpark is for the exclusive use of staff only and is accessed from Oatley Park Avenue. Parents and carers are not permitted to enter or park in the staff carpark under any circumstances. Student and staff safety is paramount.
